This set is built around a bokken inspired by a Kobayashi-style model, developed from an original reference and refined through practical experience in craftsmanship and use.

The bokken is characterized by a light weight (approx. 430–450 g) and a highly refined profile, with a blade that tapers significantly both in width and thickness toward the tip. The tip itself is short and slightly rounded, contributing to a safer and more controlled interaction during paired practice.

The handle features a comfortable oval shape (approx. 35 × 26 mm), allowing for a natural grip and precise hand positioning. The transition between handle and blade is smooth, supporting fluid adjustments during movement.

Because of the refined blade and reduced mass toward the tip, the overall balance is slightly shifted toward the handle, resulting in a bokken that feels particularly responsive and easy to control. This configuration favors precision over inertia, and allows for subtle adjustments in timing and trajectory.

Another distinctive feature is the slightly chamfered edges along the spine (hiramine), which soften the geometry of the weapon and contribute to a more refined tactile sensation.

In practice, this bokken encourages a fluid, continuous and precise approach, where efficiency of movement and quality of execution take precedence over raw power. It is particularly well suited to practitioners seeking to refine their technique and develop a more nuanced handling of the weapon.

A lightweight jo of standard length, slightly slimmer in shape, completes the set, ensuring coherence and versatility during training.

Engravings on bokken and jo are made by hand using traditional wood burning (pyrography). We can transcribe your first and last name into Japanese katakana.

You may also choose to have kanji (Japanese characters) engraved.

The inscriptions are made vertically:

– On bokken, the engraving follows the direction from the tip toward the handle and is usually placed on the blade just above the guard.

– On jo, the engraving is placed at the center of the staff.
