Martial use

This set reflects a committed and structured approach to Aikido weapons practice. The Takemusu-style bokken, with its weight and inertia, encourages the development of power, stability and whole-body movement.

It is particularly suited to practitioners looking to deepen their body mechanics, with an emphasis on relaxed shoulders, connection to the center and continuity of motion.

This type of bokken is commonly used by practitioners of Iwama-style Aikido.

Handcrafted in France in the Manmori workshop from carefully selected ash wood.

Manufacturer's note

This Aikido weapons set is built around a bokken inspired by the forms used in the Aikido Iwama practice, known for its technical depth and strong engagement in movement.

The bokken is characterized by a thick, minimally tapered profile, with a blade that retains material along its length and ends in a flat tip cut at 90°. This distinctive geometry, combined with its relatively heavy weight, creates a pronounced inertia during cutting movements.

This inertia naturally supports the development of power, while also highlighting the importance of relaxed shoulders and proper body coordination. The practitioner is encouraged to refine their movement in order to maintain fluidity and precision despite the level of engagement required.

The smooth transition between the handle and the blade allows for a natural adjustment of hand position, contributing to a stable and comfortable grip.

The jo, with a slightly larger diameter than standard Japanese models (approx. 25.5 mm), complements the set harmoniously. This dimension is particularly well suited to European woods and provides a secure and consistent grip, in line with the overall feel of the bokken.

As with all Manmori products, each weapon is crafted from carefully selected European hardwood, offering a balance of strength, flexibility, durability and lightness

Every piece is handcrafted in our workshop in the Périgord region of France, using traditional hand tools to achieve a precise balance, refined finish and a genuine connection to the material.

This set is intended for practitioners seeking a committed, structured and demanding practice, focused on developing both power and quality of movement.

Would you like these weapons to be engraved?

Engravings on bokken and jo are made by hand using traditional wood burning (pyrography). We can transcribe your first and last name into Japanese katakana.

You may also choose to have kanji (Japanese characters) engraved.

The inscriptions are made vertically:

– On bokken, the engraving follows the direction from the tip toward the handle and is usually placed on the blade just above the guard.

– On jo, the engraving is placed at the center of the staff.

Once you have made your choice in the dropdown menu, please enter the text to be engraved in the “Engraving text” field.
