Martial use

Inspired by the handling qualities of Yagyū Shinkage-ryū bokken, this model is suited to practitioners who wish to develop control, coordination and accuracy through a more responsive weapon.

Because of its light weight, it does not rely on mass to stabilize the movement, making it a valuable tool to refine tip control, timing and precision, while allowing longer practice with less physical strain.

Manufacturer's note

This bokken was designed around a deliberately refined profile, with a reduction of material in both width and thickness in order to create a weapon that is light, lively, and highly responsive.

This design provides an immediate feeling of freedom in movement, encouraging quick transitions and a high level of fluidity. However, this lightness also makes the weapon more sensitive to variations in the practitioner’s movement.

During cuts, the trajectory is more strongly influenced by the inertia of the arms: as speed increases, it becomes more demanding to stabilize the tip with precision. This bokken does not guide the movement through its mass; instead, it requires a more refined technical engagement to maintain accuracy and stability.

In return, its reduced weight helps limit fatigue in the arms and shoulders, making this model particularly comfortable for regular or extended practice.

Like all the weapons offered on this site, this bokken is made from carefully selected ash wood, offering a good balance between lightness, strength, flexibility, and durability.

Each piece is entirely finished by hand in our workshop in the Périgord region of France, using traditional tools, in order to achieve a natural balance, a refined finish, and a genuine connection with the material.

This bokken is intended for practitioners looking for a lively, demanding, and formative weapon, ideal for developing precision, control, and quality of movement.

Would you like these weapons to be engraved?

Engravings on bokken and jo are made by hand using traditional wood burning (pyrography). We can transcribe your first and last name into Japanese katakana.

You may also choose to have kanji (Japanese characters) engraved.

The inscriptions are made vertically:

– On bokken, the engraving follows the direction from the tip toward the handle and is usually placed on the blade just above the guard.

– On jo, the engraving is placed at the center of the staff.

Once you have made your choice in the dropdown menu, please enter the text to be engraved in the “Engraving text” field.
