Martial use

Traditionally used by practitioners of Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū, one of the oldest Japanese martial traditions still practised today.

It is also appreciated by some martial artists for personal training to explore different dynamics and powerful striking sensations.

Manufacturer's note

This bokken is inspired by the forms found in the Katori Shinto Ryu tradition and is distinguished by a particular geometry that clearly sets it apart from more standard models.

The blade is shorter and thicker, with reduced curvature and a characteristic beveled tip. This configuration concentrates the mass over a shorter length, allowing for a strong transfer of energy during cuts.

The combination of a relatively long handle and a short, dense blade gives this bokken a high weight-to-power ratio. The result is a pronounced striking sensation while maintaining good maneuverability.

This model invites a more committed approach to practice. It allows practitioners to explore sensations different from those offered by longer bokken, notably thanks to its balance point shifted toward the front of the blade.

Like all the weapons offered on this site, this bokken is made from carefully selected ash wood, offering a good balance between strength, flexibility, durability, and lightness.

Each piece is entirely finished by hand in our workshop in the Périgord region of France, using traditional tools, in order to achieve a precise balance, a refined finish, and a genuine connection with the material.

This bokken is intended for practitioners looking for a distinctive, powerful, and formative weapon, allowing them to work on structure, commitment, and the quality of the cut.

Would you like these weapons to be engraved?

Engravings on bokken and jo are made by hand using traditional wood burning (pyrography). We can transcribe your first and last name into Japanese katakana.

You may also choose to have kanji (Japanese characters) engraved.

The inscriptions are made vertically:

– On bokken, the engraving follows the direction from the tip toward the handle and is usually placed on the blade just above the guard.

– On jo, the engraving is placed at the center of the staff.

Once you have made your choice in the dropdown menu, please enter the text to be engraved in the “Engraving text” field.
