Suburito – Heavy Training Bokken

The suburito is a traditional training tool used for repetitive cutting exercises (suburi). Its weight requires a full-body engagement, helping practitioners develop:

• structural alignment
• relaxed power under load
• endurance and stability

Because of its demanding nature, it is recommended for experienced practitioners and should be used progressively.

Manufacturer’s note

This suburito is designed as a dedicated training tool, not as a standard bokken.

Its thick profile and concentrated mass create a strong inertia during movement, requiring precise coordination and proper body mechanics. It naturally highlights any tension or imbalance, encouraging the practitioner to develop a more efficient and relaxed use of the body.

Regular practice with a suburito can significantly improve cutting power, endurance and structural integrity, provided it is used with attention and control.

Due to its weight, this tool should be approached with care and integrated progressively into training.

Each piece is handcrafted in our workshop in the Périgord region of France, using traditional tools and carefully selected European hardwood.

This product is available on a made-to-order basis, allowing us to focus on quality, balance and material selection for each individual piece.

Would you like these weapons to be engraved?

Engravings on bokken and jo are made by hand using traditional wood burning (pyrography). We can transcribe your first and last name into Japanese katakana.

You may also choose to have kanji (Japanese characters) engraved.

The inscriptions are made vertically:

– On bokken, the engraving follows the direction from the tip toward the handle and is usually placed on the blade just above the guard.

– On jo, the engraving is placed at the center of the staff.
